Salvage Title Vehicle? Please help!!!?

Question 1
Salvage Title Vehicle? Please help!!!?... I am looking at buying a 2nd vehicle with a salvage title. I talked to the man at the dealership and he disclosed this right away;however he stated that the car was only a repossession and that is why it is salvage. I intend on purchasing the Car Fax but I thought that salvage vehicles were like vehicles that have been in accidents and totaled? Is this incorrect? Are salvage title vehicles legally drivable? Is it normal for a repossessed vehicle to get titled as salvage? And besides the Car Fax report and having a mechanic accompany me to the dealership....are there any other steps to take to somewhat make sure I'm not wasting my $?

Thanks in advance.

Answers
1) in general, definitely stay away from salvage titles. They cannot be legally registered in all states first of all. second of all with all the cars out on the market you can find something to your liking that is 100% above board. If the car was repossessed it was likely wrecked, thereby earning the SALVAGE tag. - emunbear

2) Repossessed or not it had to be either wrecked or a flood victim to wind up with a salvage title. Since the salesman is already being less than truthful I wouldn't trust him any further than you can throw him. Even if the car has been repaired perfectly there are other problems with a salvage title. Not all states will register a salvaged vehicle and not all insurance companies will insure them. The insurance companies that will provide coverage will only pay off about 40 to 50% of the book value in case the car is totaled in an accident again. That's why I tell people that if they pay more than 50% of book price they made a poor purchase. When you try to trade it in you'll never get more than 40 to 50% of what the same model with a clean title would bring. - mustanger

3) sub the right word/Junk/the old titles used to say /JUNK in big letters/also It said Lemon Law in big letters/now it says salvage or rebuilt and the lemon is now returned to dealer during warranty/but if it walks like a junk and barks like a junk/its salvage??/cmon the guy is walking up to you and smiling saying to you here buy this junk and your not insulted??wow/going to have insurance problems and finance problems/why buy problems??? - ken k

4) They don't put a salvage title on a car because it has been repossessed. They put a salvage title on a car that has been damaged to the point where repairs are more than the value of the car.

If you are looking for parts, a salvage title can save you a lot. If you are looking for something to drive, avoid the salvage title since you can't get a loan on a salvage title, and insurance can be a problem also. - oklatom

Question 2
I'm getting a rental car for thanksgiving. What kind of insurence should I choose? I dont own a car right now?...

Answers
1) if you are over 25 and have had a full driving license for 3 years then you should get some temporary car insurance, its cheap and the older you are the cheaper it is. i am too young to get temp cover but sometimes i wish i could. - Adam

2) Yes, so you simply get temp cover. - Velia

3) if you not 25 i dont think so - ken k

4) While going on a family vacation or trip, the wise decision is to find out whether you have a personal vehicle insurance cover or credit card cover. Check your existing auto insurance policy or credit card before purchasing rental car insurance. Auto insurance policy provides basic cover, but the most important factor to consider is if it provides liability, collision and comprehensive cover. For complete info you can read this article - Robin

Question 4
why do insurers consider a broken water heater flooding and not covered under regular h.owmers ins?... they told me I had to have flood insurance when that happened to me and I had to cover all the costs. whats the difference between a pipe breaking or a water heater, they are not a act of god like a flood?

Answers
1) because you have a crappy ins company. - TAF187

2) you can beat that/flood is an act of god/pipe breaking is not/call your agent and get your nasty face out of the closet and make that dimmer show you in policy the definition of flood/you are dealing with some clerk and your not screaming enough/they tried that baloney with me and i shorted out the phone when i yelled loud enough/get after this visit local office and get policy out - ken k

3) Because it is a flood and isn't covered under regular homeowners insurance. It would cover fire, theft, even if your dog bit the mailman. It won't cover broken water heaters. You can get flood insurance if you like.

And why did you ask in Cars & Transportation > Insurance & Registration? - oklatom
