Do i need Car insurance to take a purchased car off the lot if i dont have insurance?

Question 1
Do i need Car insurance to take a purchased car off the lot if i dont have insurance?... Im 21 years old just finished school and buying my own car...used. im not currently insured under vehicle insurance and have never had insurance on a vehicle. ive always been on my parents insurance...but my question is do i need car insurance from a company befor i take the car off the lot or does the dealership that i purchase the car off of have something like a day insurance or something

Answers
1) you need to insure the car before you can drive it anywhere - Harley Drive

2) No such thing as day insurance. Most policies are sold 6 mo at a time. State laws require all cars to be insured the moment they hit the road. If you are financing, the lender will require insurance in case you kill the car they will get their money. - The Eagle Keeper

3) you need insurance, you can get a cover note for a day though - Lee

4) Don't move it an inch until you have insurance in place. If the car lot is on their toes, they won't let you take it without showing proof of insurance. No, dealers sell cars, not insurance. Go talk to an independent local agent and get covered, or have it towed home. - oklatom

5) Getting new automobile insurance is a fast and easy way to save your money. You can get a easy estimate at websites they often give you multiple quotes.

I tell my friends about http://www.InsureAutoNow.info - Odessa H

6) If liability insurance is mandatory in your state you need to have insurance to drive on a public street. If it's not mandatory it's legal to drive, but not too smart. An accident could happen anytime. - Howard L

7) Any reputable dealer wont let you drive the vehicle off the lot without insurance, Most states also require liability at a minimum for you to even register your car ...

Question 2
what will happen, had a accident no insurance or L's?... my sister was driving my mothers car and had a accident, and sideswiped someone’s car no police was called to the scene, they exchanged insurance numbers and my sister gave my mothers Information, when the insurance called my sister she gave them all the info they needed, it was recorded putting her at fault and stating she had no license, what’s gonna happen to her, she's almost 21...my mother knew she had the car and gave her permission to drive she has her learners permit
were in Maryland
My mother HAS insurance, but only under my mother, my sister is not covered

Answers
1) i think that it is best if you tell us what country you are in

people on here are from lots of different countries so penalties will vary from country, state, province etc

your sister's license (i mean her learner's permit) could very well get suspended

if your mom knowingly let your sister drive the car and she doesn't have a license then the insurance company can refuse service to her - Sarah Townen

2) Try to avoid insurance company and just pay the damage. Otherwise she'll end up paying for the damage + fines. Insurance company will not cover you if you were breaking the law.

Sorry. - punk rock Warlord

3) tell mom to get ready the insurance is going up up and away/tell sis that her entry into the real license drivers is going to be delayed and save her money for the fine - ken k

4) The car simply gave her permission - brother... - Aurora

5) I'm a little confused as to whether your mom's car has insurance, because in the question you stated 'no insurance', but then you said insurance information was exchanged with the other party.

If there is no insurance on the car, your mom will be responsible for all the damages to the other vehicle, plus she may have to pay a fine if the other insurance company reports her to the police. Your sister may also get a fine for driving without a license.

If there is insurance on the car, the insurance will pay for the damages to the other vehicle, then the policy will probably be canceled because your sister was driving illegally. - CD2007

6) the same thing has happened to me, what will happen is, if your mother does not have insurance than the insurance company of the other person will pay for the accident but your sister will have to pay the insurance Company back whatever cost the damage was,now what she will need to do in order for her not to have her l's suspended when she finally does get them is to just make a payment arrangement with them. I pay fifty dollars once a month. Since the police was not called she might want to consider herself very lucky because there was no report or ticket written and she don't have to go to court. If your mother does have insurance on the car then that should be the end of it, most of the time insurance companies are not worried about if you have your licenses, they only worry about if you have insurance or not so they wont have to come out of their pocket. - kenyatta

Question 3
How much does it cost to insure a 1987 Porsche 924?... Im just about to buy the car for $1000. I am 19 yrs old and living under my moms rules. she said i am not allowed to have this car, because we cannot afford insurance at the moment. So i would be paying for a fraction or all of it myself. i was wondering what the price to insure it would be. thanks ahead of time
I live in NJ. The car would be insured under my mom or dads clean as can be driving record.
Can you let me know what variables there would be? So I can answer them and help you guys more? She told me I had to do everything myself before I came to her. The car has roughly 120k+ original miles. non turbo. accidents unknown as it was shipped from Florida from ebay and sold here. and if i apply it for classical car insurance (which it qualifies) most likely...would it be cheaper then regular insurance? itd just be a weekend, pleasure drive car. let me know any other variables. thanks
So i went to one of the links provided and did the free quote under my moms name and this is what i got:

"Your initial 6-month Esurance quote: $467.00"

Answers
1) As soon as mom calls her insurance agent and asks, you will know exactly what the cost would be. We can't guess because of the many variables considered. - oklatom

2) It really is like asking how high is up? There are so many variables, it would be impossible for anyone here to answer with any accuracy. - medik418

3) It would probably raise your dad's insurance by about $2500 a year if you get collision only.

You might even find something cheaper by shopping around and get your own.

Getting quoted is free at:

http://autoinsurance.guidearticles.com/ins.php?id=baOtt27m009

http://insurance.moneysavecenter.com/insurance-quotes.html?id=baOtt27m009 - Have a Cigar

4) If you're the primary driver, the car will be rated for you; trying to insure it with mom or dad as primary is called "fronting" and the companies are wise to it.

Classic insurance might be cheaper overall, but it allows you to drive only to/from shows, concours, etc. or in them. Whatever you do, do not skimp by taking only state minimum limits, since they're a joke in every state and don't provide enough protection; spring for a few extra bucks and get them increased. - David

If you do not have the full Ontario license then you can not drive by yourself.

2) I don't see why not. Remember that you'll need a passport to cross the border. Also, because of your age, I expect the U.S Immigration people will want some evidence that you can support yourself while you are in the U.S. - mike k

3) as long as you have a g2 (ontario), thats all i know - Marty

4) can if you got mom or dads say so and you drive right can drive pretty much any where on ething might be travel times or curfews be hard to rent hotels wouldnt be a wise thig to do but if you are careful dont see many problems think might be too young to do it alone would be a tough for a long time driver that would be a problem not knowing how or when to stop or maybe what to do if you have a problem places to sleep be a week trip dont think your up for it - kelly_f_1999

i got in a car accident can you help me out?

Question 1
i got in a car accident can you help me out?... so yesterday i was driving and the whole tire and rim came off my car and hit another ladys car and only like 3 black tire marks on her car and shes trying to get money.

do you think she can?

Answers
1) first off anybody can sue anybody for anything. that said get a hold of your insurance company and fill them in on all of the details and then hope for the best. if it's at all possible get pictures. that will help you and your inurance company. - eye 4 n eye

2) Whoa now. You didn't keep after the maintenance on your car to the point where a tire came completely off, and struck another car and damaged it, and how you're asking if she can get money?

Of course she can, you damaged her car. Contact your insurance, make the report, get the claim number and give it to the woman so she can get her damage repaired and go on with her life.

Then get your car fixed or off the road. - oklatom

3) did you not feel your tire about to fall out?? WTH you should feel shaking .. Were you high? - Hooubis

4) She deserves money. Those marks weren't on her car until your car broke into pieces and flew into her car and messed it up. Call your insurance agent and make a police report and get the lady's car fixed.

If the engine fell off a 757 onto your house and burned it down, do you think the airline should tell you "that's your hard luck and go find yourself a new house. Pfffft!"? They gotta fix it and replace all your lost stuff, plus put you up while your house is gone. So, you didn't burn down somebody's house, but you did mess up their car. The quicker you agree to get it fixed, the less she'll complain, but if you aggravate her, and she gets some shark lawyer to start biting at your bank account, you will not like how it turns out. - don r

3) Go to the DMV. Your mom will have to pay taxes on it and a title transfer fee. - Kris W

You cannot legally continue to have the insurance in your name as only the registered owner has interest in the vehicle. She can get insurance on it and put you as a driver or you can get basic "operator insurance" to provide basic liability coverage while you a driving a non-owned car. - Robert G

Question 5
How cheap is car insurance for a 16 year-old Floridian boy driving a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer?... I'm a 16 yo dude in Florida wanting car insurance for my 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer and I have never gotten any ticket of any kind. I have not violated any rules....yet.

Answers
1) Since at 16 you can't have your own insurance, have your parents call their agent and ask what it would cost to add you to theirs driving a brand new car. Then look at 10 year old cars as your first car instead. - oklatom

2) is the car under "your name" if not the owner must add you as a daily driver. For a 16 yr old its a little pricey I guarantee. - Hooubis

3) Tom is right--you'll want to be sitting down when you get the premiums on even a "small, affordable" car like the Lancer. The comp/collision figures will eat you alive. Buy a beater for cash and use the money you save for buying gas. - David

4) Since you're 16 and basically have no driving record yet, your insurance premiums are going to be sky high. I wouldn't count on less than $1500-$2000/ Year. Keep your grades high- "B" or better average. Take driver's ed and driver's training if your school offers those. Those qualifications might afford you small discounts. If you want to know why young people get stomped for insurance, look at that "yet..." in your last sentence. Everybody breaks rules. Most people get caught once or twice. Every ticket costs not only the fine, but an insurance rate increase for years. - don r

Got into a Car Accident? Your Step-by-Step Guide on What to Do

Getting into a car accident can be a stressful ordeal, so it helps knowing how to deal with it. When faced with a car accident, the most important thing is to maintain a clear presence of mind. With this, you will be able to go through the important motions that should follow an accident.

Recovering from an accident takes time. But at the moment immediately following an accident, you don’t have to worry about all the things you need to do. Just keep these four important steps in mind for the meantime.

Step 1: Take stock of the situation

The first and most important thing you need to do is to take stock of your situation. Go out to examine the accident and how much damage it caused. First, check for injuries so you can call for medical attention when necessary. In case of injuries, call for medical help then try to help the injured persons. It helps to always carry a first aid kit in your car for such unexpected situations. However, make sure not to move the victims while applying first aid. Wait for the paramedics to be the ones to move them, unless the car starts to smoke or a flame begins, in which it is important to get as far away from the vehicle as possible.

In case of minor accidents wherein injuries are minor or there are no injuries at all, you can turn your attention to the extent of damage done to your car and to the other vehicle involved. At this point, you can move to step 2.

Step 2: Gather information

It is essential to get all the information pertaining to the accident. You have to get information about the accident itself and about those who were involved. First, document the accident by taking pictures of it from all possible angles. The pictures can be used to determine who is at fault and what really occurred. Photograph all damages done to the vehicles as well. Also, look for witnesses and get their contact numbers as well. This will help you be able to establish what really happened in case there is a dispute between you and the other party.

Then get information about the other party. The information you should ask for includes the name, address, contact number, car make and model, license plate number, the vehicle identification number of the car.

Step 3: File a police report

With complete information in hand, call the police and file a report for the car accident. Regardless of how minor a car accident is, always be sure to involve the police. If you can’t gather all the information you need from an uncooperative third party, the police will help you with this. Filing a report will help speed up and make it easier for you to file a claim. If the need to call a police is not necessary anymore, be sure to at least go to nearby police stations and make a report just to keep it on record.

Step 4: Contact your insurance agent or agency

Finally, make a call to your insurance agent or to your agency’s emergency hotline. If possible, in case of major accidents, make the call at the scene of the accident and with the police present. The police can help explain the accident and provide more accurate information about it to the insurance company, which can help speed up your claims request.

Do: Keep calm so you can deal with the accident the right way.

Don’t: Don’t panic.
The Verdict: It is scary and nerve-wracking to get into an accident. But no matter how careful you try to be as a driver, car accidents are a part of every driver’s life. Whether quite minor, you can’t expect to prevent accidents from happening. The best you can do is to prepare yourself so if they do happen, you will know what to do.

Question 1
My car is still registered in another state, but am driving in CA I got a photo ticket.?... I have NV plates and my car is still registered there, and I now live in CA, I recently got one of those photo tickets where I ran the red light and it took my picture, will it go to the NV resident or will I even receive it and have to pay it?

Answers
1) They'll track you down. They've got nationwide databases for that kind of thing. - kj

3) You ran a red light. You have to pay regardless of where you live... - Lucy

4) it depends on who the vehicle is registered to,the ticket goes to the registered owner - dn_gllsp

5) If you have been in California for at least three weeks, then, in addition to the penalty for the traffic light ticket, you may also be required to pay a (possibly larger) fine for violating the CA law that requires you to register your car within 20 days of moving to CA. - StephenWeinstein

Question 3
Car has just been vandalized at salon school parking lot. Are they responsible?... Just 40 minutes ago someone broke into the window of my wifes car stole a few things. This all happened while the car is parked in the parking lot of her salon school while she was in school. Police came and they did all the paper work. School has also been informed of what happened.

The parking lot does not have any seucrity cameras.

Should we hold them responsible since it happened in their parking lot? If so, where do we go next? Do we hire a lawyer, talk to the Dean?

If anyone can give me any suggestions that would be great.

Answers
1) you are in the tubes/get fixed and report it to your ins co - ken k

2) sounds like a comprehensive insurance claim, it is the vandals whom are responsible. - buddy_236

3) You report it to your insurance company, you admonish your wife for leaving valuables in open site, and make sure from now on you do the same....

No.. the school is not responsible, it is your responsibility, to not leave things out where thieves can see them..... - Sophie B

4) Suppose a car parks in front of your house. Now suppose someone comes by and breaks all the windows. Is it your fault? Why isn't it? Okay, how about they parked in your driveway. Are you responsible now? Why not. You seem to think the school needs to pay for your damage. The school would only be responsible if they hired the people that did the damage to your car, or gave you a written guarantee that your car would be safe while parked there.

Talk to your insurance agent and see if it's covered, and leave the Dean alone. - oklatom

5) Unless you are a well connected Old Etonian I think you'd have quite a job - and expensive legal fees - trying to prove in court that the school is responsible for your wife's motor vehicle being vandalised and possessions being stolen. There's always a scumbag out there just waiting for a snippit of voulnerability to become apparent for an opportunity to strike, regardless of all the CCTV and disclaimer notices in the world. The school is not to blame, unfortunately.

As someone suggested, you need fully comprehensive insurance to be able to claim for personal affects being stolen from a vehicle, but be careful of cut-throat loss adjusters acting on behalf of your insurance company as they'll ask you a lot of questions in a bid to try and screw you out of a claim. And you may have to cough up your policy excess.

For what it's worth, your next step should be to study your motor insurance policy before making a claim. - Gringo Starr

Question 4
If i trade my truck in will i have to finish paying for it? will they add balance to the truck i get.?...

Answers
1) i think so..they will probably add balance - John

2) Of course. Whatever you promised to pay for the darn thing you still owe, less any payments you've made, and regardless of what it is worth.

If you trade it in, anything you owe above what the truck is worth will be rolled into the new loan. - ideas

3) If you still owe money on your truck in excess of the value of the truck they may also finance that amount. ie: The dealer is allowing you $7,000 trade in allowance on your truck, but you owe $7,900. the $900 might be added to the loan amount on the new vehicle, but most loan companies do not like to do that, so you may be required to pay the $900 before they will finance the new vehicle. - Stormy

4) Talk with the dealership some will pay off the balance. - KMcG

Question 4
What lets officers know right away that I have insurance on the vehicle?... I'm sort of new to the whole laws of driving thing and live in the state of Texas. I went to go get my registration renewed on my car today and asked for my insurance. When officers pull you over and run your plates, what is it that lets them know right away (without getting out of their vehicle) if I have insurance or not? Is it the vehicle registration?

Answers
1) Yup. When I renewed my plates this yr I had to send my policy number & company info to the state. - The Eagle Keeper

2) The secret computer chip they have placed in your vehicle that police officers can scan from over a mile away. - Ellen M

3) It is random! They may not ask you next year. Also they might send you a letter in the mail asking you to come to the court house or where ever to show proof of insurance throughout the year at any given time randomly. The police officer in no way knows if you have insurance via running the plate. That is why you are asked for proof of insurance when they approach your vehicle.

1: If you do not show the proof, you get no tag.

2: If you get a letter to come show the proof and you don't in a given time, your tag is suspended. In that case they officer would know you were suspended for not showing proof of insurance.

In that case, you could get off with the no insurance if you had insurance at the time of the traffic stop, however you would probably get a suspended tag ticket and you would probably be able to beat that without going to court if you had good reason for not making it to show proof in the first place.

All depends on the cop and if he had to pay for his donuts and coffee he had prior to pulling you over or not. - ?

4) its only the ins card that you give them/they check the card against the vin/they give me back the card before they go and run the plate and the license - ken k

Can people really get money by scamming random people? How do I get our of this?

1) its a scam. shred it and throw it away - Reed O

2) Reply to the insurance company with the information that you have not had an accident and therefore could not be liable for damages to their client's vehicle. - oklatom

3) Certainly could, BUT, if they have 'witnesses' ( also in on the scam ), they could make your life miserable for awhile. Call your insurance guy & see what he says. Most insurance companies have anti-fraud investigator's just for this kind of thing... - rick29148

Question 5
My friend totalled my car and my car was uninsured. What will happen?... I let my best friend borrow my car in early September because she was carless. She went to get the car inspected in mid September but since the rear tire rods were worn down, the inspection failed. She took my car to her step dads garage where he agreed to do the work for for much cheaper. I was under the impression that the car was sitting at the garage waiting to be fixed, She told me two weeks ago thst she still had to give her step dad money for the part so he could fix it. She also had said that she wouldn't be needing the car since she was getting her car together. I didn't pay the insurance at the end of September because I thought it was sitting in a garage and since I am unemployed and do not need the car it was an unnecessary expense. My friend never told me if the car had been fixed and if she was driving it. She got into a car accident last night. She hydroplaned due to the rainy weather and lost control of the vehicle. She collided head on with another vehicle. She received a concussion, stitches, and bruises on her leg. The other driver was uninjured but damage was done to the car. Upon exiting the car to talk to the other driver, another car rear ended the vehicle she had just left. I found out that she was driving my car and the car is now totalled.

I had no idea she was driving my car since I was under the impression that it was still at the garage. My car was uninsured. Am I going to get into trouble for her accident? The accident was deemed to be no ones fault and no citations were issued. There is a police report and accident report. Her boyfriend is telling me this situation is my fault because of the lapse in insurance coverage. However, she lead me to believe the car was waiting to be repaired, that she was getting her car in order, and she never mentioned that she had been driving it or for how long. I had no idea she was driving the car or I would have told her it wasn't insured anymore. What is going to happen to me? Am I responsible for the other cars damages even though I had no idea it was being driven? or is my friend responsible? She is unisured as well.

Answers
1) You need to talk to a lawyer ASAP! - chit for brains

2) My best guess is that this will wind up in a court case; gather all info you have including the police report and the termination of insurance paperwork with the date of termination on it. You and your friend will have to go to court and tell the Judge exactly what happened - that you were unaware the vehicle was being used by your friend, you canceled the insurance due to the vehicle being in the shop, etc, etc. No one can tell you what the outcome will be and other people may advise you to get a lawyer, but a lawyer probably will not take on a case that he/she cannot get any $$ from

PS your friend was driving recklessly - the car hydroplaned due to the rain, yes, but because your friend was driving too fast for the conditions..........always slow WAY down when driving in any inclement weather - this may even be brought up in the court - not 2 B fooled

3) you are in/you let insurance lapse/she is also in but you are the owner and thats where they will go/after her and you/ - ken k

4) When you have loaned out your car, you have also loaned out your insurance. If you allowed your insurance to lapse, it wasn't covered. Yes, it was your uninsured car that caused the damage, and your responsibility to pay for it. All the rest of it is window dressing and doesn't matter. Your car, not insured, being driven by someone you gave permission to drive it, your fault. Pay for the damage. - oklatom

Question 3
In a car accident and insurance refuses to cover the damages.?... I have had full coverage on my vehicle since last january, paying $300 dollars a month because I hadn't had insurance or a car in a few years. last week I was in a car accident. The woman in front of me slammed on her breaks, and hit the woman in front of her, I was following a full car lengths distance behind her, at 45mph....the speed limit there, and breaked as quickly as humanly possible....but hit the back of her vehicle. Her Chevy Blazer took no damage really, a few scuffs on her bumper, the woman in front of her, same thing....a few scuffs, my kia was crunched in the accident. The officer that came to the accident, took all of our insurance info, registration info, and drivers licence's and sat in his car, filled out the report without talking to all of us, handed us our info, handed me a ticket and left. My car was towed, I filed the claim with my insurance.

The next morning I get a call from the claims department at my insurance, she informs me that the specific full coverage policy I have (at $300 dollars a month) only works if I'm less then 50% at fault for the accident. The police report lists me as 100% responsible for the accident. The policy writer that signed me up for this policy never informed me of that specific rule, he also doesn't work for that company, he just writes for them on occasion. I need to get copy's of my original documents signed when I purchased the policy, I also know I need to see the original police report.

... now I have a 12,000 dollar debt for a car that isn't looking repairable, and even if it was it would cost me a very pretty penny.

So....what do I do?

Answers
1) When it comes time for renewal automobile insurance is a no brainer way to save a lot of money. You can get a easy quote online they often give you multiple quotes.

I tell my friends about http://www.InsureAutoNow.info - Charles R

2) You may have to go to court. It maybe worthwhile to talk with a lawyer. Another possibility is to talk to your state Insurance Commissioner.

I once had a very expensive stereo stolen from my car. My insurance company wouldn't cover me for the stereo because they said "it wasn't pemenantly mounted" it was a pull out deck. I called the Insurance Commissioner and within a couple of weeks my company gave me a voucher to have the deck replaced. - thefox

3) As far as being at fault, you hit them from behind, almost always 100% of the time it's your fault. As far as that policy, you need to read the fine print. They might be correct, they might be bluffing. If you blew the airbags, look to get the car totaled out, it's too much $$$ to repair. - dragginman_73

4) It is up to the insurance adjuster to determine liability. The police report is merely a tool used to conclude liability. If the car in front of you rearended the car first and then you rearended them, you would only be responsible for the rear damages of the car in front of you. Your insurance adjuster would need to get a statement from all parties. If the front driver indicates that they felt two impacts and the first one was the hardest, that would indicate that the middle car rear-ended them first. Definitely contact your insurance adjuster and see if they have talked to the other drivers. Hope this helps!! - brittni0877

5) I hate to break it to you, but you are 100% responsible for hitting the car in front of you. Even though you "braked as quick as humanly possible", you didn't have enough room to keep from rear ending the car in front of you.

I've never heard of insurance coverage that only pays if you are less than 50% at fault. What good is it, then? Maybe you should have read your policy when you signed up for this coverage?

Your insurance company isn't "refusing" to cover your damage. They will only cover you as stated in the policy. There's a difference between refusing and honoring their contractual obligation. - Scott H

Question 4
Can I pay out of pocket instead of file an insurance claim?... I was at fault in an accident involving two other vehicles while driving my friend's parent's car. I do not wish to tarnish the vehicle's registered owner's squeaky clean insurance rate, so I am considering paying out of pocket for all of the damages, even though the insurance would cover me. I am not from the United States and am not sure how it works here, but would I be able to pay out of pocket for the damages (under $5000) instead of file a claim? How would I go about doing this in a legal, spotless fashion?

Answers
1) YES, you can.

Does that mean you'll be paying for damages to 'BOTH' cars?

Just be SURE Neither owner files a Claim.

Get Estimates on both Cars,

Have a "CASHIERS" Check made out to EACH parties for the Estimated amount.

On the 'left' bottom corner of the check, where it says "For", put in 'Accidental Damages to Car and that Car's License plate Number' and make the check out to the OWNERS. Then keep the 'Carbon' copy and give the check to them.

Once the check is Accepted and cashed for Accidental Damages and the license-plate number is on the check, it is their Admission/Acceptance you have 'paid-off' your responsibility and you will be in the clear.

"IF" the damages aren't that bad and either decide to 'keep' the money and NOT repair their car, your Carbon copy is PROOF you ,made ammends/did you part, the rest is up to them. - Trouble

2) you can do that, i did that for 3000.00 worth of damage while i was at fault, you probably need tp file a police report quickly just so they know, and thats as far as it goes then you pay the othre person out and thats about it. - Snoman

3) Getting new car insurance is one of the simplest ways to save a ton of money. You can get a quick estimate at websites they often give you lots of prices.

I have used http://www.InsureAutoNow.info - Keri H

4) All parties would have to agree for you to pay out of pocket. More than likely, someone has already filed a claim. I would check on that first before paying out anything. Honestly, it is better just to let the insurance carrier take care of it. - brittni0877

Question 5
Why Does It Cost More For ME?... my girlfriend sam just got her first car after passing last week, its a corsa.. she got her insurance of tesco for £800 i wanted to see how much it will cost for insurance for me.. its said... £1769.09 why the f*ck does it cost that much for me?

btw i put in the same reg of the car.

Answers
1) their always are more expensive for boys they think where going to drive like idiots and write off a car every week. - leeb130

2) I assume that you are a teenage boy - and as such, you and all other teenage boys are painted with the same brush: high risk drivers. - LeAnne

3) The fact she is a female will make a difference but age will be the biggest difference.

If you're under 21 especially 17-18 then your premiums will be very high because drivers this age are more likely to have a crash.

Also occupation can make a small difference.

Remember though whilst you may be that price for Tesco's another insurance company may quote you a lot lower. Try a price comparison site to get the best idea of costs. - Rohan

4) Studies have shown that women are much more careful when driving (altho you might be the better driver) which is why there are insurance companies just for women, like Sheila's Wheels and Diamond. Your best bet is to go for a different company, but make sure you get lots of quotes, including those that aren't listed on price comparison websites such as Direct Line and they should be able to get you a better deal. I know it's discrimination, but what can you do? - slightlydarkmetallicgreenduck

I hit a car...please please help!?

Question 1
I hit a car...please please help!?... I got my license and then two days later I hit a car turning off of my street. All I did was scratch the paint a little bit. I got out and gave the lady my insurance information and all of that. A week later they called me and said that I messed up their tire, but I know I didn't. Neither of us called the police, I had no idea that you were supposed to after getting in an accident. Im not sure what happens next... What do I do? Am I going to go to jail for failure to report the accident?

Answers
1) Calm down and take a deep breath

Report it to your insurance. They will handle it. That is what insurance is for - Rod Knocker

2) You call your insurance company and report the accident, then let them handle it. If the claimant calls you again, refer them to the adjuster. The accident is probably "under the radar" as far as reporting to the police or DMV, but do call your insurance company. - David

3) no but she tecknicle do not have profe you did it youll probely go to cort and the jujge will work out how muck it cosed or if you even have to pay - Jacob

4) Make sure you get a copy of the police report. I also rear ended a car and had min damage. Since i did not adhere to the report by attesting my side, i got my license suspended and my insurance dropped me and I was 100% responsible for paying the damage out of pocket.

Also call your insurance company and give them the others drivers info so they can handle it for you. TRUST ME!!! Its best to just get it over with and behind you. - reviewqueen

5) Do they not teach the proper procedures when involved in an accident anymore ?? These are the steps to be taken when involved in an accident : first, make sure there are no major injuries to anyone involved - do no move anyone, especially if they are injured; contact the Police, Highway Patrol or similar & have them write a report, even if no one is hurt; both parties need to exchange all info - personal & insurance; ask any witnesses if they will state what they saw; take photos (if possible) of all vehicles & the surrounding areas; someone may need to direct traffic until an Officer arrives; never admit fault, whether it was yours or not; contact your insurance company ASAP and give all details...

The problem you face now is that without the vital Police report, the other party can claim anything they want to; you will not go to jail; contact your insurance co (if you haven't done so already) and let them handle all the details - that is what you pay them for - not 2 B fooled

6) Pretty much what others have said, you need to call your insurance company, but without a police report and pictures, the person you hit can make a claim like that and get away with it.

P.S. your insurance is about to spike. - Meh

7) You are not going to jail. You might get fined some money and receive some points on your license. Pay for the tire. Tires cost less than fighting over car accident claims. - StephenWeinstein

I just got drver lic- but I have no car (will buy a car 6 month from now) Ins-Co made me pay just to have lic.?... After I got my driver license, State Farm ins send my uncle an additional bill due to I have been living with him while I am attending school. I will buy a car 8 month from now ( $ is being save) What do I need to do ? turn in my license for now if so Do I have to take written/ road test again? Thanks

Answers
1) Tell your uncle to add you to his policy as an exclusion. You will not be able to drive his cars at all, but it will not cost him anything. - Rod Knocker

2) I don't understand why you would be charged for just having a license. Maybe it's because they assume you're driving your uncles vehicle? What state do you live in? That may have something to do with it. I would suggest contacting State Farm and talking to them about it. - tydy513@att.net

3) Rod's right, just have him change your information on his policy. I know you were excited but jumped a little quick. I would also recommend being careful not to drive other people car until you get your insurance together. If you get ticket or traffic violation you'll have higher rates. - reviewqueen

4) y did they do that i never heard of that. what state do u leave n. i stay in louisiana n that don't work like that you need to get in touch with someone higher then them - Sherone

5) State Farm is correct. Insurance rates are based on the total number of persons with licenses in the household, including those who do not have cars. Your uncle must pay the bill. State Farm cannot make you pay, but you should reimburse your uncle. - StephenWeinstein

Question 4
Someone hit my car almost 3yrs ago and promised to pay for the damage still hasn't?... My car was parked and this guy descided he was going to try to push my lowered 97 chevy cavilier with a lifted toyota tacoma, well didn't work and it put a big dent in my trunk, He promised to fix it or pay for the damage, at this time when this happened i was going to trade this car in for a masda mx6 well the dealership was going to give my 3700 for my car well i could take it to trade it in after this happened. This guy has excuse after excuse why he hasn't paid for the damage, i lost out on 2,oo0 dollars on trade in for this car, the damage he did was around a 1,000 he has paid me like 300. He has had the money to make this right but blows it on stuff his girlfriend wants. I have had it What should i do?
And i wanted to add that this man is in his late 30's and should know better.
There were three witnesses. Two were in the truck with him and one was in the house with me. Doesn't it cost money to take him to claims court? And i don't have the car anymore.
He was also drunk when he did it i could have got him in so much troble if i would have called the cops but he sware up and down he would fix it. At this time i thought he was a decent persone who kept to his word then he got a 19yr old girlfriend who seems to contorl what he does with his money.
How would i go about filling a claim what kind would i file and would it cost money?

Answers
1) Do you have his promise in writing? If not, you're probably SOL by now. You could take him to small claims court, but chances of proving a verbal agreement are about zilch. - David

2) WOW - Have you got a problem. Did by chance you get something / anything in writing ?? If not, the only possible way to connect him to the damage was the $ 300 he already paid you, and that would require that he gave you a check with a note about being partial payment for damage or close. I'm not sure if a list of people who heard him say he would pay for it would work .... - rick29148

3) Sue him, and next time, do not wait this long. - StephenWeinstein

4) Most property damage claims have a 3 year statute of limitations, it depends on the state. You may no longer be able to collect from this. Why did you wait so long? This should have been turned into his insurance 3 years ago. - just_me

Question 5
cheap auto insurance?... i need it to be super cheap and by super cheap im talkin dirt. i never get pulled over so im not worried about quality i just need to make sure my car is not reposessed. i would like to stay away from the "commercial" carriers like progressive and geico as i am actually uninsurable by geico (i tried) and progressive totally screwed me over which is why insurance is so expensive for me as it is. i know "you get what you pay for" but i dont care all im concerned with is price. please dont lecture me just give forth good info. thank you
btw i have a TERRIBLE driving record (two speeding tickets and a failure to yield, no biggie. BUT my old insurance carrier screwed me by paying out on two accidents that were by no means my fault without even investigating and for which i was not cited at all. and a couple possession charges but i dont think those went against my driving record cause i was not "under the influence" they were POSSESSION ONLY) and i just want to stress i dont care about quality cause i am an EXCELLENT driver and i NEVER get pulled over (except of course those first few times when i first started which were over 3 years ago but under 5 lol)

Answers
1) "i never get pulled over"--and you never, ever have accidents, either? There are cheap companies out there, but you'll have to do your own homework on the price. If majors like Geico won't write you, your only option may be the non-standard (high risk) market, which won't be cheap.

I juet read your additional details, and you're frankly on a fool's errand. (Why did you possess if you didn't use?) Those, plus the moving violations, have dug you a deep hole, and now you have to live in it for at least three years. No lecture, just facts. - David

2) I totally understand, if you mentioned repossession then i assume your financing your vehicle. I wouldn't think of just being pulled over. What if your hit by an uninsured motorist and your vehicle is no longer drivable? you can accidentally hit someone and they can call the cops and find that your not insured or under insured and sue you personally liable.

To answer your question... "Freeway" insurance is one of the least expensive companies and so is Infinity insurance. Go through my website or a broker and allow them to quote you. - reviewqueen

3) When I go looking for replacement car insurance is a fast and easy way to save a ton of money. You can get a quick estimate at websites they often give you competing quotes.

I know people who have used and recommend http://www.InsureAutoNow.info - Tomas M

4) it might be cheaper to take taxis.seriousley look into it.i hate insurance companies they pay everone but you.some dick could say they want $2000. because you blinded him with your high beams.boom he gets $3ooo. just incase.you are in ontario right.stay away from the roads untill you are 75. - Bob Loblaw

How much am I entitled for a personal injury claim?

Question 1
How much am I entitled for a personal injury claim?... My boyfriend and I got into a car accident 2 days ago. The other person was completely at fault. My bf was driving about 35-40 when a lady cut through the street in front of us to turn into the opposite lanes. She didn't see us at all, and we t-boned her. Almost head on. Neither of our seatbelts locked. I hit the dashboard and suffered from chest contusions and couldn't breathe, so I got taken in an ambulance to the hospital. My boyfriend was okay at the scene but went to the hosiptal yesterday with back strains and whiplash. The airbags also did not deploy. The car had $7000 worth of damage, and I believe was totaled.

We filed a claim with the lady's insurance yesterday, and the Adjuster called us today asking us questions then gave us an offer for pain and suffering of $1000 for the both of us. I have not accepted anything yet.

I understand that we could negotiate a settlement, but I'm not sure how much either of us are entitled to. Our medical bills haven't been paid for yet. I paid for my pain medication with my Medicaid, but my bf doesn't have health insurance.

Also, my bf got 2 citations: one for having no insurance because it expired last week and he got no notice of it, and one for suspended license because of no insurance. (Also, never notified of that, which is why he was still driving)
To Sarah:

Nobody is complaining, just asking for advice. Obviously I have never been in an accident before so I don't know what the fuck to do. If you would read correctly, I was not the one driving, nor were we at fault. I suffered serious injuries, which could have lead to something much worse, so before you start calling people idiots, bare in mind that you're bitching about someone who could've died. so what does that make you?

Also, if my bf wasn't notified about not having insurance after fully paying for it and expecting to still have it, HOW THE HELL IS HE SUPPOSED TO KNOW HE WAS DROPPED FROM IT?!

if you're not going to answer me productively, then don't answer my questions.

Answers
1) I'm not sure, maybe ask a lawyer? - poop

3) don't take the $1000. I would say you should talk to your bf insurance company and let them handle it but he doesn't have insurance. you need to talk to a lawyer because you don't have anyone on your side due to the fact that your boyfriend has no insurance. i can't tell you what you are entitled to because i don't know where you live and the laws vary. go see a lawyer right away - lauren

4) I would wait to see what the extent of your injuries are. I think $500 each is reasonable but you could possibly negotiate for more, expecially if the vehicle is a total loss. Getting an atty will only cost you because you have to pay them as well. - brittni0877

5) I think you should take the money and be quiet, because you weren't insured. It's idiots like you who drive uninsured who ruin lives, not getting a letter from your insurers is no excuse. Stop whinging and count yourself lucky that you're getting any money at all. - Sarah

Question 3
Sons 15 years old got caught driving without a license.. got a question?... Since my son got his temps suspended for 6 months , does that mean the temp is not valid? I also live in ohio . thanks

Answers
1) Yes, he cannot drive until its valid again. - Metalhead {JuGGalettE}

2) idk - Cam J

3) thats what it means it do mean that and check to see if he is valid before he gets behind the wheel/my kid did that and i treated him to a public bus pass /no more driving my car/you get your license and buy your own/but thats me - ken k

4) His lucky the officer didn't take him to jail for that and not having proof of insurance.

If he's a first time offender and he wasn't involved in any accident His temp is revoked until he can get a non-restricted license.

He got citations when he was stopped so he needs to take care of that first., the offense and any points will show up on his driving record even though he doesn't have a license.

If he does this stunt again, the vehicle will be impounded, the owner of the vehicle will be penalized with a fine AND points, he will go to straight to jail for 30-days plus another fine and he won't be able to get a license until he turns 21. - brawn_body

Question 4
Car insurance for a 17yr old boy on a 1997 mini cooper?... Im looking to buy an old classic mini, like the ones in the original italian job, after i pass my driving text and get my full drivers license. Im just wondering how much, approximately, would this cost for me?

Answers
1) You're going to have to call a local insurance agent to get a quote. A lot more information is needed to figure out the price. Because you're a new driver the cost will be higher. If you insure yourself under the same policy as the your parents then it will save you some money esspecially if you still live with them. Some insurance companies raise your rates if it is a two door vehicle. Thats just to show you that there is a ton of different varibles in pricing your insurance premium. I would give you one but I'm not sure what state you live in (agent has to be in the same state as you). - Matt

2) Its hard to tell you because it depends on a lot of factors, try this site where you can get quotes for free

Car Insurance Gearing up to Drive Down Costs

For once finances seem to be going in favour of the UK motorist, with Esure announcing plans to double its share of the UK's car insurance market - a move which is likely to spark a price war, other internet-only direct insurers passing on to consumers savings based on their low overheads, and specialist insurers offering reduced rates for their particular target markets. A trial pay-as-you-go scheme from Norwich Union is also creating a lot of interest for money conscious motorists.

The pay-as-you-go scheme uses a small box costing an initial £199 which is fitted in the driver’s boot, to record when and for how long a driver actually uses their car. The box stays in contact with a satellite which is sent regular updates of the journey data stored on the box, tracking the vehicle and then delivering the information to the insurer. The driver is then charged based upon how far at what time they used their vehicle.

“We got a statement”, said one member of the trial, "which showed what mileage we had done, and on what days of the week, as well as if we had been driving in the evenings or peak hours."

For low mileage users, this system could present significant reductions in premiums, for higher mileage drivers searching about for the best deals at renewal time is an absolute must.

Unfortunately, last year five million motorists failed to shop around, missing out on an average premium saving of £180. Shopping around becomes especially important for anyone coming to the end of a free insurance offer on a dealership car and should not simply take the quote offered by the manufacturer's insurer, as significant savings can be made by shopping around. Comparisons sites such as Moneynet enable consumers to quickly look at hundreds of insurance providers in one go, making it easy to find the best deals that are available, and they often have their own extra discounts which are provided through their own sites.

While the government tries to work out new ways to extract more money from motorists, the competitiveness of the insurance industry is thankfully helping to drive down the cost of insurance premiums, making it one of the few rays of hope for UK drivers.

Question 3
Car insurance for a new driver.?... How much money would car insurance be for a 16-year old teenage boy? My birthday falls weird so i get my lisence when im sophmore.

Answers
1) depends on if its your own insurance or on parents insurance and that record

depends on where you live

depends on type and year of car

depends on how much you drive - answers smartass

2) It depends on the company. The best thing to do would be to call a few of them in your area and ask them. Are you going to have your own insurance or be put on your parents'? What type of vehicle, what state, is it country or city where you live? It is hard to say how much it will cost without knowing all of the details. - Just Bein' Me

3) It depends on what kind of car your going to be driving, where you live, and if its going to be your own policy.

I'm 16 (chicago) and my insurance is 2,000$ a year. - Kevin O

4) At 16, your only choice is your parents' policy, so you'll have to call their agent and ask. - David

5) It depends on the insurance company, the car you drive, the town you live in, and the amount you want to be covered. There are many different coverages that insurance companies will pay. For example you may choose to have liability coverage of $25,000 - that means if you're in an accident they'll pay up to $25,000 in damages and hospital bills for the other driver(s) involved, but not for you. You could instead choose a full coverage plan where they'll also pay damages to your car. Essentially, the more basic the coverage the cheaper it will be.

If your parents are willing to put you on their coverage that can sometimes save money as well. It's best to shop around if you are going to get your own insurance. It doesn't hurt at all to go to different companies and get quotes from them, just make sure you're looking at the same type of coverage. Take the time to find the best deal. - Lester Craig
